Today Facebook announced changes to its API that allow developers to access user information from Facebook.
Until today Facebook member data was off limits but now, like Twitter, Digg and flickr, social media monitoring tools like Radin6, techrigy, and buzzmetrics have access to user submitted data.
So why now, why is Facebook doing this and what does it mean for us digital marketers. Well, facebook has been struggling to monetize it's content for a while. so opening up this API is a first step for facebbok as now just like twitter, new desktop applications could be developed to send updates, do searches, or share other video/audio content. The thinking is that Facebook could potentially set a fee for business level API requests, while consumers get a lower level of service for free. This would be someting like 100 or so free API calls per/day/hour etc.
For digital marketers today could be the first day of the rest of your lives!
Want to know what your customer are really feeling and saying and interacting with your brand, then just use radina6 or techrigy to find, cluster, and analyse the key conversations and communication streams that triggers the quantifiable actions that lead a consumer to buy your product or service. On facebook, consumer have been rantinga ndraving about brands for a while now, so all that market research you've been paying for from focus groups is now free, or nearly free.
So, what r u waiting for? Dig in!
BTW - Did I "call this one" or what?
