3Q Handset Sales Growth Slumps

According to Stategy Analytics, Global mobile handset shipments grew a meager 5.4% in the third quarter, compared with 13.2% a year prior, as emerging markets growth slowed to its lowest rate since 2002, research firm Stategy Analytics said Thursday in its latest report.
  • Nokia's limited presence in the USA is a pain point
  • Samsung shipped 52 million handsetsand has record- high global market share of 17%
  • Sony Ericsson shipped 25.7 million units
  • Motorola (MOT) shipped 25.4 million units in the third quarter, down 32% annually
  • LG shipped 23 million handsets, down 17% sequentially
  • Apple shipped 6.9 million units, up sharply on the year
